Art is an outlet for storytelling, record-keeping and healing. Throughout history, artists have been at the centre of social change, pushing back on the status quo, holding authority accountable and creating hope for the future.
Singer/songwriter Julianna Riolino felt she needed to speak out against gender-based violence but was unsure where to begin. The 2024 US Election and increasing restrictions on women and trans rights made it clear that she needed to start somewhere. Collaborating with her sister, Alicia Riolino, On a Bluebird's Wing was formed.
On a Bluebird's Wing is a collection of artists dedicated to social change. Like past social movements that demanded equality, we call on the bluebird as a symbol of hope and good news. We aim to use our platform to draw attention and garner support for the most vulnerable members of society. In doing so, we strive to inspire action, build stronger community bonds and build systems that address inequality.
Our first annual concert will raise funds for Gillian's Place, one of Ontario's first shelters for survivors of domestic violence. All proceeds from the event, including 100% of ticket sales, are directed towards programming and services for Gillian's Place clients. Read more about Gillian's Place and its history here.
Building and strengthening our community is more critical than ever. We hope to see you at the next On a Bluebird's Wing concert. Stay tuned for more details.
